Job summary

The Missouri Division of Youth Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide advanced nursing care in day treatment and residential youth programs. You will perform assessments, health care plans, immunizations, medication management, and health education, while upholding professional and compassionate care.

This role requires a current Missouri LPN license, at least one year of experience, and willingness to work varied shifts.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a current license to practice as a Practical Nurse in Missouri.
  • One or more years of experience as an LPN.
  • Pursuant to state law, accreditation/licensure may be required for post-secondary degrees.

Responsibilities

  • Perform practical nursing work in care and treatment of youth in a Missouri DYS facility.
  • Provide each youth with a complete physical exam upon entry.
  • Create and maintain medical files per policy; establish medication logs.
  • Review daily medical complaints and orders; ensure accurate medication dispensing.
  • Provide immunizations and maintain immunization records; conduct CPR/First Aid training as needed.

Job description

Working with the Division of Youth Services is more than it seems. The current rate for this position is $1,993.69 semi-monthly. Individual(s) selected for this position may receive a higher rate based on a pay differential (e.g. shift, or time-of-service pay).

This is advanced practical nursing work in the care and treatment of patients or residents in a facility of the Missouri Division of Youth Services. This position performs a variety of nursing duties including preparing nursing assessment summaries and health care plans, implementing health care plans, instructing residents and patients in performing personal health care, and performing preventative nursing care.

The following tasks are the responsibility of the Licensed Practical Nurse:

  • Perform practical nursing work in the care and treatment of youth in a facility of the Missouri Division of Youth Services.
  • Provide each youth with a complete physical exam upon entry into the facility.
  • Create a complete medical file for each youth and maintain in accordance with DYS medical policies.
  • Establish medication logs for each group. Review logs weekly to ensure they are current and staff is dispensing medications correctly.
  • See all youth requesting medical attention, and review all medical complaints, injury reports, and physicians’ orders daily.
  • Establish and maintain an ongoing awareness of all youth that have been identified as having special health care needs and report significant findings to supervisor.
  • Inventory medications twice per month. Check inventory quarterly to ensure it meets agency requirements. Participate and assist RN with the medication reviews and the preparation and submission of reports.
  • Provide immunizations to youth as directed by policy. Maintain immunization records and submit to appropriate agencies.
  • Transport students and/or families to appointments and other locations as necessary.
  • Conduct CPR and First Aid classes for youth and staff. Obtain and maintain certification as CPR and First Aid Instructor. Work with management to ensure all staff receive and maintain certification in CPR and standard First Aid.
  • Provide health care and hygiene instruction to youth, staff, and families, promoting health and prevention and management of illness, injury, and special health needs.
  • Complete all required reports and correspondence in a timely, accurate manner in accordance with established procedures and formats.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of current nursing theory, practices, and techniques. Ability to work assigned schedule which may include a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or required overtime.

Possession of a current license to practice as a Practical Nurse in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri’s Nurse Licensure Compact; and one or more years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Pursuant to State Law, this position requires accreditation, licensure, and/or professional or occupational license which is only available to holders of specific post-secondary degrees
