Summary

The Rocky Mountain Region Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (RMRVAMC) Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders (SCI/D) Center provides comprehensive rehabilitative care for patients with spinal cord disorders. The program aims to enhance understanding of altered body functions and help patients develop physical and social skills for a full, rich life.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
• Licensure: Must hold an active, current, and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), or District of Columbia.
• BLS: Basic Life Support certification is required.
• Education: Graduation from an approved practical or vocational nursing program or equivalent military healthcare training recognized by the licensing authority. Transcripts are required.
• English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• Additional qualifications may apply under the Grandfathering Provision for current VHA employees.

Grade Determinations:

Candidates must meet specific experience and skill requirements for each grade level:

• GS-03: Basic requirements only.
• GS-04: Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN, or graduation from an approved school with at least one year of experience, or completion of a 24-month approved program.
• GS-05: One year of experience at GS-04 level or equivalent, demonstrating comprehensive nursing skills and the ability to serve as a team member.
• GS-06: One additional year of experience at GS-05 level, with proficiency in providing complex patient care, emergency response, and educational support.

Preferred Experience:
