Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC, is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 12-hour day shift on a surgical unit.

Join a 20-bed team with self-scheduling and a supportive, interdisciplinary culture. LPNs contribute to patient assessments, wound care, and medication administration under RN supervision.

Qualifications

• Active NC LPN license required, compact license acceptable if applicable.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient assessment under RN supervision.
• Perform plan of care interventions including wound care.
• Administer medications as directed.
• Document care provided and communicate updates to the team.
• Assist patients with daily living activities and mobility.
• Monitor patient status and report changes to RN/physician.

The Surgical team at Frye Regional Medical Center offers a supportive, team-oriented culture where nurses collaborate closely to provide exceptional care. The 20- Bed unit features self-scheduling, 12-hour shifts, and every-other-weekend rotation, helping promote flexibility and work-life balance. Nurses gain valuable experience caring for a diverse patient population while working alongside experienced leaders and a strong interdisciplinary team.

How you'll contribute

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who excels in this role:

• Under the direction of an RN, contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN
• Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care.
• May administer medication.
• Documents patient care given.
• Assists RN with development of plan of care.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Monitors, documents, and communicates patient's status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current state LPN license. High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional requirements include:

• Active North Carolina LPN license (single-state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
