Job summary

Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC, is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) new grad for full-time day shifts on a 12-hour unit. Join a 20-bed Surgical team that supports self-scheduling and every-other-weekend rotation to promote work-life balance.

Under RN supervision, you will contribute to patient assessments, perform plan-of-care interventions, may administer medications, document care, and assist patients with daily living activities.

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina LPN license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient assessments and data collection under RN supervision.
• Perform plan-of-care interventions including wound care and specimen collection.
• May administer medications as directed.
• Document patient care accurately and timely.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Communicate patient status and responses to interventions with the RN/physician/family.

How you'll contribute

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who excels in this role:

• Under the direction of an RN, contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN
• Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care.
• May administer medication.
• Documents patient care given.
• Assists RN with development of plan of care.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Monitors, documents, and communicates patient's status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current state LPN license. High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional requirements include:

• Active North Carolina LPN license (single-state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
