Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 28-bed Med/Surg unit in Sylva, NC. This full-time night-shift position offers a $7,500 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment for eligible candidates and a 3x12 schedule (7p-7a).

You will provide compassionate patient care, assist with procedures, meds, injections, and wound care, and document care in the medical record as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Current North Carolina or compact state LPN license.
• Associate degree from an accredited nursing program.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS/PALS within six months of hire.
• One year of experience in a medical-surgical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Providers with patient visits by obtaining vitals and medical history.
• Prepare exam rooms and assist with procedures as directed.
• Collect lab samples and administer medications/injections as ordered.
• Document all care and education in the medical record.

Join our team in a 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of Physicians, Advanced Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. With a 6:1 ratio, you will play a crucial role in assessing patient's needs, administering treatments and ensuring patient comfort and safety. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality patient care. This is an excellent opportunity for nurses seeking to grow their skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care. This department utilizes self-scheduling application.

How you'll contribute

• Assists Providers with preparation and information documentation for the patient's visit including obtaining vitals, medical history and other pertinent information from the patient.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients.
• Assists Providers with procedures as directed by the Provider.
• Assists with collection of lab samples.
• Gives injections, administers meds, and provides wound care as ordered by Provider.
• Documents all care and education in medical record.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current North Carolina or compact state Licensed Practical Nurse license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• AHA ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
