Job summary

SoftPath Medical seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse for a ~6-month assignment. Shift is 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday through Friday, in an all-male, single-building facility.

Training includes two weeks and pharmacy-related instruction; nursing duties cover oxygen, dressings, catheter care, dialysis, and medication administration under supervision. Strong emphasis on patient care and safety.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the appropriate nursing board.
• Proof of completion of an approved medication administration course.
• Note: LPNs administering dialysis must have IV Therapy Certification.

Responsibilities

• Administer nursing care under supervision of RNs and physicians.

Licensed Practical Nurse Position

Duration

This role is expected to last approximately 6 months, subject to change based on internal state hiring. If a state nurse is hired, a 2-month notice will be provided to the candidate.

Shift

2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Work Environment

The facility is an all-male, single-building location with two floors. Candidates must be comfortable with frequent stair climbing and descending.

Job Duties

• Administer nursing care within the scope of practice as defined by relevant nursing regulations, under the supervision of registered nurses, licensed physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, or chiropractors. This includes:
  • Administering oxygen
  • Applying sterile dressings
  • Inserting catheters and reinserting gastrostomy tubes
  • Suctioning and irrigating wounds
  • Administering enemas and douches
  • Collecting specimens
  • Performing dialysis treatments, operating hemodialysis equipment, and monitoring patients during procedures
  • Assisting physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests
  • Providing emergency care such as first aid, CPR, and patient restraint
  • Administering controlled drugs (narcotics, minor tranquilizers) and non-controlled medications in oral, rectal, topical, or injectable forms (intramuscular and subcutaneous injections only)
  • Providing medication instructions to patients
• Maintaining medication accountability records, including charting patient records, preparing and counting medication, managing medication stock, and maintaining medical equipment and supplies
• Observing, documenting, and reporting patient conditions such as medication reactions, treatment responses, behavior, and progress; preparing and maintaining related reports and records (e.g., incident reports, patient records, medication reports, seclusion/restraint logs, patient kardex, team plans)
• Providing general nursing care and direct assistance, including:
  • Taking vital signs
  • Assisting with personal grooming, hygiene, bathing, and daily living activities
  • Administering topical ointments and solutions, eye, ear, and nose drops
  • Repositioning patients and responding to patient alarms
  • Scheduling medical appointments and escorting patients
  • Assisting with recreational activities and providing one-to-one or group activities as per treatment plans
• Providing guidance, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff such as hospital aides, orderlies, and psychiatric attendants in delivering basic nursing care (e.g., dressing, bathing, feeding)
• Participating in meetings including staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training, and nursing meetings as assigned
• Ordering medication and medical supplies; cleaning the nurses' station, medication room, and medication cart (including sterilizing and restocking, defrosting and cleaning medication refrigerators)
• Performing clerical duties such as answering phones and filing

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of licensed practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first aid, CPR, hospital practices and procedures, agency and institutional protocols, HIPAA regulations, human relations, inventory control, and employee training and development
• Skill in using medical equipment such as respirators, dialysis machines, sterilizers, oxygen equipment, blood pressure cuffs, hypodermic needles, and personal computers
• Ability to understand practical nursing concepts and manage mostly concrete variables with some abstract elements

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the appropriate nursing board and proof of completion of an approved medication administration course.

Note: Licensed Practical Nurses administering dialysis treatments must have Certification in IV Therapy as required by applicable regulations.
