Overview

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), also known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in some states, is a healthcare professional who provides basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. LPNs monitor patient health, administer medications, and provide comfort and support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration)
  • Administer prescribed medications via oral, topical, and injection routes
  • Perform basic wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, eating, mobility)
  • Collect specimens for laboratory testing
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to supervising RN or physician
• Patient Monitoring and Assessment
  • Conduct routine health assessments and screenings
  • Monitor patient responses to treatments and medications
  • Recognize and report signs of complications or adverse reactions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and observations
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures and tests
• Medication Administration
  • Prepare and administer medications according to physician orders
