Job summary

SoftPath Medical in Ohio seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our clinical team. The role covers direct patient care, medication administration, and coordination with physicians in a minimum security facility.

You will work a rotating schedule from Tuesday through Saturday, 1:45 PM to 9:45 PM, with potential overtime for coverage. You will provide nursing care under supervision, assist with exams, respond to emergencies (CPR), document care, manage supplies, and support lower-level staff.

Qualifications

Licensed Practical Nurse

Shift


Days off: Sunday and Monday - Work schedule Tuesday through Saturday


1:45 PM to 9:45 PM - Rotating schedule with required flexibility; may be asked to stay late to provide coverage


Job Duties


  • Provide nursing care within the scope of practice as defined by state regulations under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. This includes administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, reinserting gastrostomy tubes, suctioning, irrigating wounds, giving enemas and douches, collecting specimens, performing dialysis treatments, operating hemodialysis equipment, and monitoring patients during procedures.

  • Assist physicians with physical examinations, treatments, and laboratory tests.

  • Deliver emergency assistance by administering first aid, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and restraining patients when necessary.

  • Administer controlled medications such as narcotics and minor tranquilizers, as well as non-controlled medications in oral, rectal, topical, or injectable forms (intramuscular and subcutaneous injections only), and provide medication instructions to patients.

  • Maintain medication accountability records, including charting patient records, preparing and counting medications, and managing medication stock along with medical equipment and supplies.

  • Observe, document, and report patient conditions such as medication reactions, treatment responses, behavior, and progress; prepare and maintain related reports and records including unusual incident reports, patient records, medication reports, seclusion/restraint logs, patient kardex, and team plans.

  • Provide general nursing care and programming assistance, including taking vital signs, assisting with personal grooming, hygiene, bathing, and daily living activities; administering topical ointments and solutions, eye, ear, and nose drops; repositioning patients; responding to patient alarms; scheduling medical appointments; escorting patients; assisting with recreational activities; and conducting one-to-one or group activities according to treatment plans.

  • Offer guidance, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff such as hospital aides, orderlies, and psychiatric attendants in delivering unskilled nursing care like dressing, bathing, and feeding patients.

  • Participate in meetings such as staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training programs, and nursing meetings as assigned.

  • Order medications and medical supplies; clean the nurses’ station and medication room/medication cart, including sterilizing and restocking the cart and defrosting and cleaning the medication refrigerator.

  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phones and filing.


Major Worker Characteristics


  • Knowledge of licensed practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first aid, CPR, general hospital practices and procedures, agency or institutional protocols, HIPAA regulations, human relations, inventory control, and employee training and development.

  • Skill in using medical equipment such as respirators, dialysis machines, sterilizers, oxygen equipment, and blood pressure cuffs; proficiency with hypodermic needles; and operation of personal computers.

  • Ability to understand practical nursing concepts; handle mostly concrete variables with some abstract elements; recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients; comprehend manuals and verbal instructions related to practical nursing; demonstrate dexterity for administering injections and medical treatments; and possess the strength to move, reposition, or restrain patients.


Additional Information

Work is performed in a minimum security facility with some walking required due to parking. May be required to respond to medical emergencies.
