Job description

Position Summary

Functions as the practical nurse by working in a collaborative mindset. Collaboration is defined as working with physicians, office staff and medical center staff in order to deliver optimal patient care services within the scope of the licensed practical nurse’s professional expertise. These services are performed with the medical direction and supervision, as determined by the physician and RN resource person. Assesses, treats and cares for patients demonstrating an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation processes. Assesses the needs and responds to customers while demonstrating an understanding of their age-related differences.

Position Responsibilities

The following are essential job responsibilities:

  1. Good interpersonal skills with a positive approach to patients.
  2. Performs effectively as a team member and treats all staff and patients with courtesy and respect.
  3. Actively contributes to the medical centers mission and philosophy of patient care.
  4. Reviews, monitors and updates primary care physician’s daily schedule.
  5. Ensures that patient’s medical record is available and prepares record with necessary lab/x-ray results, tests, procedures and other forms as appropriate (e.g., growth charts, immunization forms, consents, etc.) prior to scheduled visit.
  6. Manages patient flow ensuring vacancies are filled as appropriate, rooms are efficiently utilized, and wait times are minimized.
  7. Prepares patient for examination and/or specific treatments/procedures and assists physician with procedures.
  8. Performs the following in accordance with established practices and protocols, and at the request of the primary care physician: EKG’s, holter monitors, phlebotomy, peak flows, simple dressings, non-complex laboratory procedures (e.g., clean catch urine, dipstick, finger sticks, etc.), in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
  9. Schedules/orders tests and/or therapies/procedures for patients and assists with scheduling of hospital admissions.
  10. Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks equipment on an ongoing basis.
  11. Instructs patients on specific after care procedures as ordered by physicians in consultation with RN.
  12. Is knowledgeable and consistently adheres to department, organization, safety, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned and provides coverage for team members as needed.

Position Specifications

Minimum Education:

Graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse School
