Job summary

SouthStar is seeking an energetic Licensed Practical Nurse to provide patient care under the direction of a Provider in Opelousas, LA. The ideal candidate is flexible, has a positive attitude, and a passion for patient care.

Responsibilities include preparing patients for examinations, recording vitals, assisting with treatments, administering medications, injections, wound care, and collaborating with providers to ensure seamless care.

Qualifications

  • Educate and prepare patients for examinations, document vitals and history.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by providers.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to treat patients and manage care.
  • Authorize medication refills and provide prescription information as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination, record vitals and history, and provide treatment as applicable.
  • Assist in determining medical problems, initiate IVs, and administer fluids and meds per orders.
  • Collaborate with providers, assist during examinations, injections, sutures, dressings.
  • Authorize refills and relay prescription information to pharmacies.
  • Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, wound care per orders.
  • Collect blood/tissue samples, log results, and perform in-house testing.
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain medical supplies and equipment.
  • Document patient care in EMR systems and forms.
  • Schedule tests and follow-up visits.

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing patient care services, determining medical conditions, and preparing patients for examination and treatment under the direction of the Provider. The ideal LPN candidate is energetic, flexible, has a positive attitude and above all else, has a passion for patient care!

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for examination, records vitals and history, and provides treatment as applicable
  • Assist in determining medical problems, initiates and maintains intravenous lines, administers fluids and medications as directed through provider orders
  • Collaborate with providers and other medical staff when examining or treating patients, giving injections, removing sutures, and applying splints and dressings
  • Authorize medication refills as per providers direction and provide prescription information to pharmacies
  • Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders
  • Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs
  • Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures
  • Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records
  • Schedule patients for tests and follow-up appointments
  • Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions
  • Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Certificate/License: Current LPN license.Current BLS certification is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of one - three years of relevant experience is preferred.
