Overview

The Ambulatory Licensed Practical Nurse is a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team. The practice of nursing is defined as performing tasks within the framework of case finding; reinforcing patient and family teaching through health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed Physician. The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan. The Licensed Practical Nurse actively supports performance improvement initiatives and ongoing professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care within the scope of practice and in alignment with the care process.
• Reinforce patient and family teaching and provide health counseling and supportive/restorative care as directed.
• Document objective and subjective findings and interventions in accordance with standards, organizational policies, and procedural guidelines.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and pursue continued professional and personal growth.
• Assist in coordination of the plan of care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or physician.
• Contribute to the department’s assessment and evaluation processes as applicable.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• License/Certification: Current LPN licensure in the State of New Jersey. Current BLS/HCP.
• Speciality Experience: Family Medicine/Urgent Care; Internal Medicine; Pediatric Pulmonary; Trauma Outpatient; Clinic Services; Infectious Disease; Mission Services. 3–5 years of clinical experience in the respective area with strong organizational skills preferred.

Work Environment

• Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
• Physical demands: considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching; extensive standing and walking; lifting 25–50 pounds frequently; lifting 50–100 pounds with assistance occasionally; pushing and pulling heavy equipment.
• Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the patient care unit leadership.
