Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Responsibilities:
The LPN serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, utilizing nursing judgment based on knowledge, experience, and competency. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting focused assessments and participating in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
- Seeking guidance from a licensed nurse or healthcare team when patient needs exceed scope, skill level, or stability.
- Following established policies, guidelines, and the State Practice Act, including IV administration where clinically appropriate.
- Developing daily care goals and plans with patients, ensuring a holistic, patient-centered approach.
- Clearly communicating patient conditions to caregivers and ensuring comprehensive documentation.
- Upholding patient safety, quality, and satisfaction standards set by national organizations and the health system.
- Building compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to foster a healing environment.
- Providing thorough education to patients and families for smooth care transitions.
- Supporting new LPNs and care staff through orientation and mentorship, promoting continuous learning.
- Identifying and participating in process improvements to enhance patient care.
- Collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Maintaining professional relationships, accountability, and commitment to both patients and colleagues.
- Demonstrating cultural awareness and ensuring a healthy workplace dynamic.
- Practicing work-life balance, modeling safe hours, and reporting workplace hazards.
- Performing duties per system-wide competencies and additional assigned responsibilities.
- Completion of a State Board-approved Practical Nursing Program.
- Operating Room experience is highly preferred.
- IV therapy training is required; graduates from 2012 onward automatically meet this requirement, while those who graduated before 2012 must provide proof of completion.
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.
- Computer skills to utilize electronic health records.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- LPN license in the state of employment or a multistate license under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC).
- If relocating, employees have 60 days to obtain licensure in the new state.
