Job summary

Brown University Health’s Bradley Hospital in East Providence, RI seeks an Art Therapist/Expressive Arts Therapist to lead patient care using art therapy and CBT techniques.

The role reports to clinical directors and collaborates with nurses, social workers, and physicians to restore patients to their highest functioning. Must hold RI LMHC/LMHC-A and ATR/REAT with at least two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy from a graduate program accredited by AATA.
• Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT) and Current Rhode Island LMHC/LMHC-A license required.
• Two years relevant experience, preferably in inpatient psychiatric settings with children/adolescents.
• Knowledge of art therapy/expressive art therapy principles and psychosocial functioning.
• Ability to work with a wide array of visual/expressive arts mediums.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patients, establishes treatment goals/outcomes, and implements care plans.
• Communicates with physicians, nurses, social workers, and the interdisciplinary team regarding patient status.
• Documents findings in LifeChart and maintains patient confidentiality.
• Applies art psychotherapy, CBT, and trauma-informed techniques to meet goals.
• Provides art therapy supervision to students; monitors progress and compliance.
• Demonstrates competency in therapy as determined by supervisor or clinical director.
• Participates in mandatory in-services and earns CEUs for credentialing boards.
• Educates patients, families, and caregivers on therapy goals and care strategies.
• Reviews program materials and makes modifications; manages supplies.
• Oversees hospital art gallery monthly and coordinates community Healing Arts activities.
