Job summary

Amentum is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to install, service, and repair environmental-control systems across diverse settings, applying refrigeration theory, pipefitting, ductwork, and welding. This role involves lifting heavy equipment, reading blueprints, and following engineering specs to ensure safe, efficient operation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three to five years' experience required.
• Must possess a universal HVAC license.
• Must be physically capable of lifting 45 pounds, standing on stepladders, and reaching overhead.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license to operate Amentum or Government motorized equipment/vehicles.
• Position may require travel.
• Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
• Must be able to speak, read and understand English.
• This position requires the candidate to pass a pre-employment physical examination and urinary analysis.
• Must be available for any shift, must be willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Mechanic installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
• Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system.
• Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source; installs air and water filters and tests systems.
• Tests joints and connections for gas leaks, replaces defective breakers/thermostats/switches/fuses, and may install/repair air conditioners up to twenty tons in warehouses and small factories.
