Job summary

Altius Talent | Freight Forwarding Recruitment is aiding an established international freight forwarder launching a brand-new operation in New York. We seek a hands-on Licensed Customs Broker to help build the branch from the ground up and establish the customs brokerage function.

You will influence how the branch is built, implement compliant processes, recruit and develop the customs team, and lay a pathway to a Director of Operations as the operation expands.

Qualifications

• Requires active US Customs Broker Licence.
• Significant experience in customs brokerage and compliance.
• Understanding of international freight forwarding operations.
• Hands-on during the launch phase.
• Ambition to build and lead a substantial operation.

Responsibilities

• Act as the branch's qualifying Licensed Customs Broker.
• Establish compliant brokerage procedures and controls.
• Manage complex customs entries and escalations.
• Support launch of the wider freight forwarding operation.

• Develop relationships with CBP, clients and internal stakeholders.

We’re representing an established international freight forwarder launching a brand-new operation in New York.

They’re looking for a hands-on Licensed Customs Broker to help build the branch from the ground up — establishing the customs brokerage function, implementing compliant processes and developing the team as the operation grows.

This isn’t a role where you’ll inherit someone else’s department. You’ll have real influence over how the branch is built and a clear route into a Director of Operations position.

The role will include:

• Acting as the branch’s qualifying Licensed Customs Broker
• Establishing compliant brokerage procedures and controls
• Managing complex customs entries and escalations
• Supporting the launch of the wider freight forwarding operation
• Recruiting, training and leading the customs team
• Developing relationships with CBP, clients and internal stakeholders

We’re looking for someone who:

• Holds an active US Customs Broker Licence
• Has strong customs brokerage and compliance experience
• Understands international freight forwarding operations
• Is comfortable being hands-on during the launch phase
• Has the ambition to build and ultimately lead a substantial operation

You can be based anywhere across the New York metropolitan area.
