Job summary

College of DuPage is seeking a Library Technology Assistant to support patrons with computer and media workstations, printers, scanners, and related equipment. The role includes basic troubleshooting, information services, and helping manage library materials and spaces.

The position is a student job with eligibility for Federal Work Study. This role offers exposure to multimedia software and 3D space tools in a busy library environment.

Qualifications

  • Student job with basic information technology duties for library patrons.
  • Must be enrolled and eligible to work under COD policy.
  • Clear written and spoken English required; strong customer service skills.
  • Willingness to learn new software and handle equipment troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with computer and media workstations and basic hardware issues.
  • Provide information about department services in person and by phone.
  • Perform print transactions at the cash handling machine.
  • Restock supplies and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist with inventory and organization of library materials and spaces.
  • Handle check-in/check-out of equipment and spaces; support setup for events.
  • Instruct patrons in hardware and software use when appropriate.
  • Utilize audio/video and design software and hardware as needed.

Library Technology Assistant, SC1TECHASLRC (FA26)
Student Worker Eligibility

Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester or 1 credit hour for Summer semester.

Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. If a first semester student, GPA requirement is waived.

If a Student qualifies for Federal Work Study, the Student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist patrons with the use of computer and media workstations, peripherals, printers, scanners, and specialized equipment. Provide basic troubleshooting for equipment and hardware that is available in the Library.
  • Assist in providing information about department services in person and on the telephone.
  • Operate cash handling machine and perform print transactions.
  • Assist in replenishing supplies, cleaning, and basic maintenance of computers, printers, and media-related equipment.
  • Assist Supervisor and Classified staff with inventory of equipment and technology.
  • Assist with organization of Library materials.
  • Perform check-in/checkout transactions for computer and media equipment and/or spaces.
  • Assist patrons with hardware and software instruction, when appropriate.
  • Be familiar and work with a variety of audio/video, media production, design, creative, and 3D space software and hardware.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • THIS IS A STUDENT JOB.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester or 1 credit hour for Summer semester.
    • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
    • If a first semester student, GPA requirement is waived.
    • If a Student qualifies for Federal Work Study, the Student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.
    • Consideration will be given to student who can work two or more consecutive semesters.
  • Experience
    • Excellent English language communication skills including the ability to read and write is required.
    • Familiarity with the following is preferred: Microsoft Office, cloud storage, photography, cameras, microphones and audio recorders, lighting for photo/video, editing, design, or motion graphics, and/or 3D modeling software.
    • Ability to work independently or with little supervision is required.
    • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to technology hardware, equipment, and software is required.
    • Ablility to quickly assess and understand technical problems is required.
    • Ability to work in a busy public services environment is required.

Working Conditions
  • Equipment and Machines include: PCs, Mac computers, peripherals, printers, photocopiers, microfilm readers, cash registers, printing system, phones, fax machine, photo/video cameras, microphones, video production hardware and accessories, non-linear video editing systems, digital audio editing platforms, graphic design and photo editing software, projectors, VHS/DVD systems, monitors.
  • Between semesters, student hours may be limited or unavailable.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., push equipment on a cart and/or set up equipment is required.
  • The Library is open 7 days a week with availability to work various shifts: days, evenings, and weekends. Some nights and weekends may be required for the student position available.
  • Manual dexterity is required for some of the duties involving equipment.
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields from computer video display. Exposure to chemicals with toner for laser printers, inkjet printers, and microform readers/printers. Exposure to chemicals in cleaning solution for camera lenses and computer workstations.
  • This student position requires the following tests: Background Check.
Pay Rate

Student Rate 2 - $15.80 p/hr
