Kansas City Public Library is seeking a part-time staff member to provide basic circulation and registration services at the Central Library. You will assist customers in locating materials, process holds, and support computer use, with an emphasis on courteous, helpful service.
The role requires strong English communication, physical stamina, and ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Schedule includes Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday/Tuesday evenings.

Saturday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
Sunday: 1 pm - 5 pm
Monday & Tuesday: 3pm -7pm

1. Provides basic circulation and registration services: checks materials in and out; promotes library services during customer
interactions & assists customers in locating library materials, services & programs; registers borrowers and computer users;
collects fines and fees; updates customer records; verbally explains library practices and procedures; resolves customer
complaints; processes customer requests for holds; makes efficient use of referrals.
2. Performs circulation and registration services support tasks to maintain dependable circulation and computer use records:
enters customer and title information; performs circulation control duties.
3. Discharges/re-sensitizes returns and processes in-transit materials; sorts and shelves new material and discharged material; files
reserves; retrieves closed stack material; assists with collection weeding and inventory.
4. Resolves customer problems with equipment; provides simple machine maintenance as needed.
5. Assists in collection development/promotion and maintenance, creates displays.
6. Lifts and routes materials, which may weigh up to 10 pounds, from book bins and shelves.
7. Provides patron recommendations. Recommends viewing and music options to patrons.
8. Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.
1. Demonstrated ability to meet and serve the public in person & over the telephone, working effectively with customers of all
ages.
2. Demonstrated ability to learn library operations, services and policies, including the ability to work with computers in a Windows
environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to access materials from shelves which may be overhead or those which may be below waist level. Ability
to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
4. Demonstrated ability to organize personal work routines effectively.
5. Excellent physical stamina; many duties performed while standing; ability to lift up to 10lbs.
6. Demonstrated intermediate computer skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
8. Demonstrated ability to provide service in a values-based environment.
9. Demonstrated ability to provide service in a courteous, friendly, efficient manner.
Work is performed at the Central Library, and public spaces throughout the Library district. Primary workspace is shared with co-workers in an office environment. Other work will be performed in a public space amongst patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
