Job summary

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Manager, Library Service Center, the Library Service Center Specialist enables patron access to library materials and assists in the management of university records held in University Libraries remote storage buildings. Operates motor vehicles and powered lift equipment in support of library courier services and warehouse operations. Promotes the safety of all staff by complying with relevant protocols and participating in training and other activities of the facility health and safety program.

Work location: Library Service Center, Energy Drive, Blacksburg, VA (not on main VT campus)

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience in a frontline customer service environment
• Experience executing complex work tasks with close attention to detail
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft or Google Docs)
• Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing
• Ability to work in high places, lift more than fifty pounds, and operate powered lift equipment
• Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing
• Must be able to routinely lift, move boxes and bins weighing 50+ lbs
• Must be able to work from elevated locations, 40 feet height
• Must complete provided training to earn certification to use a Raymond order picker within 90 days of employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a warehouse or other high density storage facility
• Experience supporting records management programs
• Experience working in an academic library environment
