Job summary

Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington, IN is seeking a part-time Security Officer to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and staff. You will perform regular rounds, monitor facilities, and enforce library rules with de-escalation techniques.

Your duties include opening/closing procedures, incident reporting, assisting with events, transporting funds and materials, and maintaining security records. Prior security experience and CPR/First Aid are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; post high school coursework preferred.
• First aid training and CPR/AED certification required. Option to obtain within 3 months of hire may be considered.
• Police training/law enforcement or security experience preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of related safety/security experience required.
• Valid Indiana Driver’s License required.
• Specific experience with library systems is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Make regular rounds to inspect building conditions and monitor surroundings, correct problems or report problems to the proper department, as appropriate.
• Use communication with the public, respond to emergencies, and utilize problem solving and de-escalation techniques; respond to immediate needs and assess emergency situations; follow procedures as needed.
• Open/close procedures and secure public doors at appropriate times.
• Review and maintain daily security log entries including security events/incident reports and actions, lost and found, and assist with maintaining records and preparing reports as required by the Building Services and Security Manager or Assistant Manager.
• Compose and distribute incident reports via email and other means; stay abreast of current suspended or watch list individuals; concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
• Assist with meeting room preparations and special events by arranging furniture and equipment and verifying proper arrangement; test and set up audio-visual equipment.
