Job summary

District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) is seeking a Public Services Operations Manager to oversee district-wide public service operations. The role directs floater staffing, hiring, onboarding, staff training, and the administration of key operational systems to ensure consistent, high-quality service across all library locations.

Reporting to the Public Services Director, the incumbent coordinates communications, facilities support, and service continuity, serving as primary contact for

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible management experience in a large urban public library system.
• At least three years of supervisory or management experience leading professional staff, supervisors, or managers.
• Proven operational oversight, innovative public services, and cross-functional leadership in a complex organization.
• Knowledge of budget formulation/execution, personnel practices, and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manages floater staff, scheduling, deployment, and performance oversight for system-wide coverage.
• Serves as Hiring Manager for multiple public-facing positions; leads recruitment and onboarding.
• Oversees PeopleSoft actions and relevant administrative processes.
• Coordinates onboarding for new Public Services employees and represents the department in New Employee Orientation.
• Designs and delivers training to strengthen staff competencies and standardize practices.
