Job summary

District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) is seeking a Public Services Operations Manager to ensure high-quality service across locations. You will oversee floater staffing, hiring, onboarding, staff training, and key operational systems to maintain service continuity.

You will manage weekend coverage, coordinate cross-department initiatives, and report to the Public Services Director on priorities and performance metrics.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible management in a large urban public library system.
• At least three years of supervisory or management experience leading professional staff.
• Experience with operational oversight, cross-functional initiatives, and public services.
• Knowledge of budget formation, personnel practices, and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage floater staffing, scheduling, deployment, and performance oversight.
• Lead recruitment, interviews, selection and onboarding for public-facing roles.
• Provide operational analysis and recommendations to the Public Services Director.
• Coordinate training programs to strengthen staff competencies and consistency.
• Monitor Service Desk issues across IT, Facilities, AV, and Operations.
• Oversee core operational systems (Incident Tracker, Communico, Ask DCPL, WhenToWork).
• Communicate updates on openings, closures, and capital projects.
• Ensure weekend operations as Weekend On-Call Public Services Administrator.
