Job summary

Schaumburg Township District Library in Schaumburg, IL is seeking a Public Safety Officer. This part-time role (~20 hours/week) involves patrolling the library, maintaining a welcoming environment, and enforcing the Code of Conduct.

The position requires First Responder experience and the ability to respond to emergencies with sound judgement and professionalism. Pay ranges from $27.73 to $33.27 per hour, with benefits such as paid leave and a 457 plan.

Qualifications

• Experience as a First Responder is strongly preferred, including service in law enforcement, fire service, EMS, emergency dispatch, the military, corrections or professional security.
• Experience in high-pressure situations requiring sound judgement, rapid decision-making, conflict resolution and enforcing policies.
• Proven ability to respond to emergencies, coordinate with public safety agencies and protect people and property.
• Reliability, accountability and professional responsibility in previous employment.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse staff, patrons and community members.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement, solve problems and stay composed in challenging situations.
• Ability to enforce Library policies and the Code of Conduct fairly.
• Ability to work independently, stay organized and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED certification and provide basic first aid.
• Ability to effectively use workplace technology and safety equipment including CCTV, radios and emergency systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment through visible presence and proactive patrols.
• Routinely patrol the building and property to address safety, security and behavioral concerns.
• Enforce the Library Code of Conduct and established policies consistently and professionally.
• Respond promptly to staff calls for assistance and use sound judgement to de-escalate situations.
