Job summary

Schaumburg Township District Library is seeking a Public Safety Officer for a part-time role approximately 20 hours per week, primarily nights and weekends. The officer will patrol the building and grounds, enforce the Library Code of Conduct, and respond to incidents with sound judgment and de-escalation skills.

The position emphasizes a welcoming environment while maintaining security, with required qualifications including First Responder experience, strong communication, and CPR/AED

Qualifications

• Experience as a first responder preferred in law enforcement, fire, EMS or security.
• Ability to respond calmly in high-pressure situations and enforce policies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patrons.
• CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain it.

Responsibilities

This is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week, primarily nights and weekends. This position is responsible for maintaining an alert, welcoming and visible presence throughout the Library by routinely patrolling the building and property to prevent, identify and address safety, security and behavioral concerns; enforcing the Library’s Code of Conduct and established policies consistently, fairly and professionally while maintaining a welcoming environment; and responding promptly to staff calls for assistance and using sound judgement, conflict-resolution skills and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging or disruptive situations.The schedule for this position is listed below and requires flexibility. Through a visible presence, proactive patrols, consistent enforcement of Library policies and the Code of Conduct and effective response to incidents and emergencies, the Public Safety Officer works to prevent and address safety, security and behavioral concerns.
