POSITION SUMMARY:
The Adult Services Outreach Coordinator plays a vital role in expanding access to library resources, programs, and services for adults in the community. This position focuses on developing and implementing outreach strategies to engage and connect with adults of all backgrounds and interests, including underserved populations. The Adult Services Outreach Coordinator collaborates with community organizations, senior centers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to promote the library's adult services and create meaningful opportunities for lifelong learning, personal enrichment, and community engagement.

The Adult Services Outreach Coordinator role offers an exciting opportunity to connect with adults in the community and expand access to library resources and services. This position allows for the creation of meaningful experiences, lifelong learning opportunities, and the fostering of a strong sense of community among adult library patrons.
Hiring Range: $37410.00ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

  • Identify and assess the needs of adult populations in the community, including seniors, homebound individuals, low-income individuals, and those with disabilities. Design and implement outreach programs and services to address identified needs, such as book delivery services, community presentations, and partnerships with local organizations.
  • Actively engage with community organizations, senior centers, nursing homes, and other institutions to provide library services and resources.
  • Develop and implement adult services outreach strategies: Create and execute comprehensive plans to reach and engage adults in the community, with a focus on underserved populations. Identify target audiences and develop tailored outreach initiatives to effectively promote library resources, programs, and services.
  • Represent the library at community events and meetings to build relationships and promote library services. Deliver engaging and informative sessions on library resources, digital literacy, lifelong learning opportunities, and other relevant topics to meet the diverse needs and interests of adults.
  • Coordinate adult programming and events offsite: Plan, promote, and oversee a variety of adult-focused programs and events, such as author talks, book clubs, lectures, workshops, and cultural activities.
  • Collaborate with community partners to offer specialized programs and workshops that address the unique needs and interests of different adult populations.
  • Distribute promotional materials and effectively communicate the value and benefits of adult services and programs offered by the library to the target audience.
  • Assist with library collection development to maintain a collection of materials tailored to the interests and needs of adult patrons.
  • Stay updated on trends and developments in adult literature, popular reading materials, and educational resources.
  • Ensure the accessibility of materials in various formats, including large print, audiobooks, and e-books, to meet diverse needs.
  • Provide reader’s advisory, materials circulation, and deliveries to homebound library patrons.
  • Provide reference and research assistance to adult patrons, both in-person and through remote channels, helping them find relevant information and resources.
  • Assist adult patrons in navigating and utilizing digital resources, including online databases, e-books, and library apps.
  • Provide guidance and support in accessing and using technology devices, such as computers, tablets, and e-readers.
  • Promote information literacy by offering workshops and one-on-one instruction on topics such as internet usage, database searching, and digital literacy skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Associate’s degree library science or bachelor’s degree in adult education or other related field.
  • Proven experience in adult services, community outreach, or a similar role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with adults of diverse backgrounds and interests.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license

  • Proficiency in using library management systems, online databases, and digital resources.
  • Knowledge of the operation principles and practices of a public library and practices of library science.
  • Knowledge of the use of computer systems including on-line systems, computer software, printers, and other peripheral hardware.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to perform medium work frequently exerting up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, crawling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, kneeling, lifting, using mental acuity, pulling , pushing, reaching, performing repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze date and figures, to operate a computer terminal, for extensive reading; for visual inspection of books and materials at distances close to the eyes, and for use of measurement devices.
