Job summary

San Francisco Public Library seeks a strategic, mission-driven Chief Operating Officer to plan and direct operations across Finance, Facilities, HR, IT, and Research, Strategy & Analytics. You will shape the library’s strategic and capital plans, lead budgeting, and collaborate with City departments to advance organizational goals.

The role requires 5+ years of senior management experience and an advanced ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships with diplomacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; five (5) years of managerial experience overseeing Finance, Facilities, IT, Strategic Planning, or Human Resources with staff supervision.

Responsibilities

• Oversees organizational structure, policies and procedures for Library Support Divisions (Finance, Facilities, HR, IT, Research, Strategy & Analytics).
• Directs development of division goals and resource allocation.
• Leads Library’s strategic and capital planning and technology strategy.
• Collaborates with City departments and may represent the department to commissions, boards, and agencies.
• Oversees budget development and fiscal controls to ensure alignment with strategic plan.
• Partners with executive management to advance cross-functional initiatives.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Work, Urban Planning, Business Management, Computer Science, or closely related field
