Job summary

Dallas Independent School District seeks a Library Media Specialist to lead the campus library program, guiding students in research, information literacy, and the use of print and digital resources within instructional programs.

You will collaborate with teachers to plan instruction, manage library services, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure access to current materials aligned with district standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with valid Texas Library certification; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years minimally as a highly qualified teacher; bilingual skills a plus.
  • Working knowledge of library and information science.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world; willingness to stay current with developments in the profession.

Responsibilities

  • Use TEK’s/SE’s as the basis for instruction and provide group and individual guidance on locating resources and research techniques.
  • Prepare strategic plans to meet School Library Programs standards and guidelines.
  • Participate as an educational leader and change agent in curriculum development by consulting with teachers on material use and scheduling.
  • Model and promote collaborative planning, cooperative teaching, and direct instruction as needed by learners.
  • Promote ethical use of information and responsible Internet use; instruct students accordingly.
  • Provide ongoing learning opportunities for students and staff integrating information technology and information literacy skills.
  • Supervise Media Assistant(s) and student aides; manage multiple interruptions and multitask under pressure.
  • Provide flexible scheduling of classes to ensure access to library resources and an environment conducive to learning.
  • Maintain a balanced, current collection of print and digital resources compliant with district policies.
  • Manage library operations including budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, facilities, inventory, and reporting.
  • Encourage inter-library loan to broaden access beyond campus and instructional day.
  • Support academic rigor by teaching research and information-processing skills for college/workforce readiness.
  • Collaborate with the community and libraries to support student learning.
  • Enforce board policies and discipline as appropriate.
  • Promote reading and positive attitudes toward the library program.
  • Stay current with information culture and incorporate it into the program.
  • Demonstrate effective communication in oral, written, electronic and nonverbal forms.
  • Comply with laws, rules, and board policies in library/media services.
  • Develop ongoing evaluation of the program and adapt based on data.
  • Engage in professional development and member of relevant associations.
  • Perform administrative tasks to keep the library orderly and functional.
  • Carry out all other duties related to the library program and reporting requirements.
