Job summary

Dallas ISD seeks a Library Media Specialist to lead the school library program under Library Media Services. You will supervise the library/media center, integrate resources with instructional programs, and teach students to locate, evaluate, synthesize, and use information for 21st-century skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a directly related field with valid Texas Library certification, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years minimally as a highly qualified teacher; bilingual skills a plus.
  • Working knowledge of library and information science.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and manage students in a varied environment.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession

Responsibilities

  • Use TEKs/SEs as the basis for instruction and provide group instruction and individual guidance to students in locating resources and using research techniques.
  • Prepare strategic plans to meet School Library Programs: Standards and Guidelines for Texas.
  • Consult with teachers on appropriate use of materials and scheduling of materials for classroom instruction.
  • Model and promote collaborative planning, cooperative teaching, and direct instruction as determined by learners’ needs and state curriculum standards.
  • Promote ethical use of resources and instruct students in locating, gathering, selecting, synthesizing, and evaluating information.
  • Provide ongoing learning opportunities for students and staff that foster engagement in information literacy and technology integration.
  • Supervise Media Assistant(s) and student aides; manage multiple interruptions.
  • Provide instructional access to resources through flexible scheduling and an environment conducive to learning.
  • Maintain a balanced, current, diverse collection in line with district policies.
  • Oversee budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, facilities, inventory, and staff volunteers.
  • Encourage inter-library loan to extend access beyond campus.
  • Support academic rigor by teaching research and information processing skills for college and workforce readiness.
  • Collaborate with community and libraries to promote shared goals for students.
  • Carry out disciplinary policies and uphold safe learning environments.
  • Promote student autonomy in choosing materials for learning and enjoyment.
  • Stay abreast of information culture and integrate it into the library program.
  • Exhibit clear communication through various modalities and comply with laws and policies.
  • Evaluate the library program continually and implement data-driven improvements.
