Job summary

York County, VA is seeking a Clerk to assist in acquisitions and technical service within a public library setting. The role includes a range of clerical tasks and basic cataloging activities.

The successful candidate will help process new acquisitions, update records, spine labels, barcodes, genre labels, jackets and dust covers, and ensure quality control of recently processed materials. Daily mail receipt and general library support are included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
• General knowledge of mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• General knowledge of business English and public library procedures.
• Some knowledge of record keeping and reporting.
• Some knowledge of personal computers and word processing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in acquisitions and technical service through clerical tasks.
• Perform minor cataloging duties: add holdings, update records, delete items.
• Process new library acquisitions: spine labels, barcodes, genre labels, jackets and dust covers.
• Quality control of newly processed materials.
• Receive daily mail and support in other cataloging/processing tasks.
• Create replacement artwork for AV materials and books as needed.
• Assist in annual collection inventory and weeding/replacing materials.
• Perform other clerical duties as required.
