Job summary

Indian Trails Library District in Wheeling, IL is seeking a reliable facilities attendant to support daily library operations, maintain cleanliness, and perform custodial tasks. You will work with staff and library guests, assist with opening and closing, and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities include setting up rooms for programs, reporting safety issues, minor repairs, groundskeeping near entrances, and inventory of supplies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and 2–3 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work with the public in a positive manner during interruptions and emergencies.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to perform custodial tasks and basic maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with opening and closing the building.
• Assist with setting up rooms for programs and events.
• Provide proactive customer service while performing custodial duties.
• Perform daily custodial tasks (garbage, bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, cleaning surfaces).
• Assist with basic maintenance and report safety issues or damage.
• Perform minor groundskeeping (salting sidewalks, snow removal).
• Respond promptly to custodial or facility requests.
• Coordinate with facilities and security teams and attend meetings.
• Move library materials between main and branch locations.
• Inventory supplies on a weekly and monthly basis.
