Job summary

The City of San Marcos Public Library seeks a Director to lead operations, programs, and services, and to provide strategic direction for library development in the community. It requires strong leadership, fiscal stewardship, and community partnership building.

The role oversees staff, budgets, facilities, and technology, represents the Library in partnerships, and works with the Library Board to advance long-term goals and community impact.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of budgets, policies, grant and bid documentation, and administrative reports.
• Experience overseeing library operations, programs, and personnel management.
• Ability to lead, collaborate, and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee facilities, collections, technology, and public services to ensure safe, accessible library spaces.
• Lead library development and community engagement; plan long-range initiatives and partnerships.
• Plan and execute facility improvements; coordinate with City departments; support procurement and contracts.
• Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff; enforce service standards and city HR policies.
• Develop and monitor budgets; ensure compliance with financial policies; manage grants and reporting.
• Support library operations; prepare reports, participate in meetings, and manage special projects.
• Engage with patrons and the community; address concerns professionally with empathy and sound judgment.
