Job summary

Escondido Public Library is seeking a Library Director to lead the overall management of library operations, ensure contract requirements are met, and serve as a resource for the community.

The role requires MLS/MLIS, extensive leadership experience, and the ability to build relationships with officials and partners. This on-site, full-time, exempt position reports to the VP of Operations and drives service excellence.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS or equivalent required.
• Four years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Five years of progressively responsible library management or administrative experience, or equivalent, preferred.
• Experience analyzing financial reports, demographics, and usage trends, preferred.
• Working knowledge of budgeting and financial management for libraries.

Responsibilities

• Oversees day-to-day operations and ensures contract requirements are met.
• Leads, coaches, and develops staff to provide excellent customer service and patron experiences.
• Reviews financial reports, library usage data, demographics, trends to address operational needs.
• Maintains positive relationships with local officials, library boards, and stakeholders.
• Stays current on library trends, issues, technology, and community needs that impact services.
