Job summary

UC Santa Cruz is seeking Circulation & Collection Maintenance Assistants to support public service desks, manage materials, and assist library patrons at two service desks on campus. You will supervise student workers, handle scheduling, and contribute to unit-wide projects while upholding the Principles of Community.

The role includes duties across desk operations, training and evaluating student staff, and maintaining security and accuracy in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Demonstrated customer service experience.
• Demonstrated experience assigning, reviewing and following up on the work of others.
• Previous library experience, especially with automated systems.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills including excellent communication, tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with staff, faculty, students, and the public.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet unit, campus and university deadlines.
• Able to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Check materials in/out, renewals, holds, recalls, and searches; transfer calls and manage library cards at service desks.
• Inform patrons of policies and demonstrate basic research methods; teach how to locate materials and place Interlibrary Loan requests.
• Provide printing and scanning support and basic ITS troubleshooting; guide patrons with microfilm readers and scanners.
• Participate in unit, department and library-wide initiatives; assist with ad-hoc projects.
