Job summary

The Harnett County Public Library System seeks a part-time library assistant to perform circulation tasks, assist patrons with technology, and provide information services at the Coats Public Library and other branches in Harnett County. Duties include checking items in/out, registering patrons, and helping with basic reading and digital materials.

This role offers up to 29 hours per week with varied shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

High school diploma.
No experience required but some work or volunteer experience in a library or customer service setting preferred.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Responsibilities

Responds to routine inquiries and refers patrons in need of professional assistance to appropriate sources within the library or to various online reference materials.
Performs circulation duties including registering new patrons, checking items in and out, collecting overdue fines, and cash handling.
Sorts books and other items according to established procedures and returns them to shelves or designated areas.
Locates library materials for patrons including books, periodicals, DVDs, and audiobooks.
Instructs patrons on accessing digital materials and e-books.
