Job summary

Laramie County Community College is seeking a Library Assistant to support patrons with circulation, issue library cards, and process payments using library systems. The role collaborates with staff to enhance student success in a welcoming learning environment.

The position is non-exempt, offers compensation of $13.33 per hour, and requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus customer service experience. Enrollment in at least 6 credits per semester is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent or enrolled in dual classes.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Computer experience includes MS Office, email, and internet.
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (exceptions may be given for summer term).

  • Assist patrons with circulation processes, including check-in/out, issuing library cards, and processing payments using Sirsi and WYLDcat.
  • Maintain organized library environment by shelving, processing, inventory, and collection maintenance; perform data entry and other admin tasks.
  • Collaborate with library staff on projects, displays and events to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Participate in professional development and peer collaboration to stay current on best practices.

Job description

The Library Assistant is a student position which assists patrons with circulation processes while maintaining a clean and efficient work environment. Library Assistants also collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance student success and provide excellent customer service in a supportive learning environment.

Compensation: $13.33/hr.

Priority Screening Date: Position is open until filled.

Starting Date: As soon as practical after the hiring process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

this position is non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned.

  • Support library patrons by facilitating circulation processes, including material check-in/out, issuing library cards, and processing payments using Sirsi circulation software and WYLDcat for item searches.
  • Maintain an organized library environment by shelving materials, assisting with technical services such as processing, inventory, and collection maintenance, and performing various administrative tasks, including data entry, supply management, and phone assistance.
  • Collaborate with library staff on projects, display and events to enhance learning opportunities and resources.
  • Participate in professional development, training sessions, and peer collaboration to enhance effectiveness, stay current on best practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent OR enrolled in dual or concurrent classes.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Computer experience includes working knowledge of MS Office applications, email and internet.
  • Admission at LCCC and continued enrollment in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (Exceptions may be given for summer term with supervisor approval).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred knowledge of SIRSI/DYNIX integrated library system.
