Job summary

Municipality of Anchorage's Library department is seeking an enthusiastic Library Assistant. You will assist the public with circulation, register library cards, and support patrons with technology using our systems and self-checkout devices.

This full-time position, based at 12001 Business Blvd., Eagle River, requires high school or GED and at least one year of customer service or library experience, plus successful background checks.

Qualifications

• High school, GED, or the equivalent and one (1) year of customer service and/or library experience.
• Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
• Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with the circulation of materials.
• Help meet the material needs of patrons through circulation; charging, discharging, and library card registration.
• Provide technology assistance, quick reference assistance by using our Integrated Library System or the Online Public Access Computers.
• Assist patrons with the Self-Checkout Machines, Copiers, our website, databases, and occasionally our Automated Handling System.
• Provide support to understaffed Library locations and completing special projects.
• Assist with Library programs both inside and outside the library.
• Resolve any questions patron may have in regard to their account such as long overdue/missing materials or accepting fines and fees by using the cash register, card reader, preparing and taking bank deposits.
• Train and assign tasks to volunteers.
