Job summary

Nome Alaska is seeking a friendly library assistant to support the library director and staff in operating and maintaining library services for the community.

Responsibilities include helping with youth programming, assisting patrons with locating materials, handling circulation tasks, and ensuring a clean, welcoming library environment. Candidates should have a High School Diploma or equivalent and strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to work with youth and assist with programming.
• Experience handling public inquiries with courtesy and tact.
• Familiarity with library procedures and circulation systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist with youth patron programming and summer/holiday activities.
• Help users locate books and explain library computer systems.
• Assist with circulation tasks including check-in/check-out and fines.
• Register new patrons and maintain library holdings in the system.
• Provide courteous in-person and phone assistance to the public.
• Assist with shelving, straightening materials, and housekeeping duties.
• Troubleshoot patron computer issues and help navigate the internet.
• Assist with organization of media materials (DVDs, CDs).
• Enter data and maintain files; perform special projects as assigned.
