Library Acquisitions Technician

DEPARTMENT: Concord Public Library

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time, Days

We are looking for a professional, highly motivated and organized individual to work in Concord Public Library in the beautiful City of Concord, NH. The role involves arranging for the purchase and procurement of physical library materials, organizing services required by library staff, reviewing material requests, communicating with department officials and vendors, examining prices, suitability, and availability of items, comparing specifications, reviewing and monitoring procurement contracts, and developing new contracts. Work is performed independently under supervision and in accordance with city policies.

Examples of Duties
  • Conducts research, evaluates findings, and makes decisions on procurement matters.
  • Interprets and evaluates contract provisions for compliance.
  • Reviews purchase requests for accuracy and policy adherence.
  • Works closely with department personnel to ensure quality and cost-effective procurement.
  • Obtains and compares vendor quotes.
  • Oversees purchases with the City purchasing card.
  • Monitors and communicates with vendors about deliveries and changes.
  • Resolves invoice discrepancies.
  • Builds positive relationships with vendors and evaluates product quality.
  • Maintains procurement contract records and updates relevant systems.
  • Familiar with all relevant laws, policies, and intergovernmental contracts.
  • Serves as the Library's representative on purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of market developments and vendor capabilities.
  • Prepares reports and attends meetings.
  • Provides reference and reader's advisory services, assists with circulation functions, and performs technical services.
  • Participates in program planning and provides staff coverage.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent; purchasing experience preferred (2-3 years) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of computer-based purchasing, Microsoft Office, integrated library systems, budget principles, bookkeeping, and library policies.

Skills include negotiating, organizing, attention to detail, research, effective communication, and problem-solving.

Abilities include effective speaking, reading, relationship-building, and physical capability to perform job duties.

Working conditions are typical of an office environment, with minimal physical discomforts.
