The role involves arranging for the purchase and procurement of physical library materials, organizing services required by library staff, reviewing material requests, communicating with department officials and vendors, examining prices, suitability, and availability of items, comparing specifications, reviewing and monitoring procurement contracts, and developing new contracts. Work is performed independently under supervision and in accordance with city policies.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent; purchasing experience preferred (2-3 years) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of computer-based purchasing, Microsoft Office, integrated library systems, budget principles, bookkeeping, and library policies.
Skills include negotiating, organizing, attention to detail, research, effective communication, and problem-solving.
Abilities include effective speaking, reading, relationship-building, and physical capability to perform job duties.
Working conditions are typical of an office environment, with minimal physical discomforts.
