Job description

Librarian Sciences & Engineering

Position Type: Full time

Location: 103 Bertrand Library

Categories: Staff Exempt

Job Summary:

The Research Services department in Bucknell University's Library and Information Technology division invites applications for a liaison librarian position to support departments including Engineering, Computer Science, and the Natural Sciences. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working collaboratively with members of a university community: with faculty, to build collections and design meaningful information literacy experiences for their students; with students: both in and out of the classroom, to help them find and understand what they need to succeed academically and intellectually; with library staff: a talented group, committed to Bucknell's academic mission; and with other Bucknell departments and divisions: to provide services and resources that support students as they learn, grow, and develop. The successful candidate will also have a strong interest in exploring the role of artificial intelligence in higher education libraries and information technology organizations. While this position works closely with students and usually requires an on-campus presence, the role does allow for flexibility to engage in some remote work, particularly when students are not on campus.

We encourage candidates who have experience and expertise working with underserved and/or underrepresented student populations to apply. As a member of the Bucknell community, the Sciences and Engineering Librarian is expected to contribute to a work environment that is inclusive, diverse and supportive of all members of a vibrant and diverse University community, including students, faculty and staff.

The Sciences and Engineering Librarian reports to the Director of Research Services and Information Literacy.

  3. Contributes to the development and management of library collections through selection, weeding, and other activities.
  4. Conducts outreach related to library and research services, communicating and partnering regularly with faculty in assigned departments to promote information literacy throughout the curriculum.
  5. Collaborates with other library staff, faculty, academic support departments, and other departments, divisions, and centers to provide relevant services and support for the campus community.
  6. Participates in professional development activities to ensure knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in supporting the campus community in scholarly endeavors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. ALA-accredited Master's Degree (MLS) in library/information science (by end of July 2024).
  2. Undergraduate or other degree in Sciences, Engineering, or related field, or relevant experience.
  3. Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  5. Knowledge of (or strong interest in learning about) artificial intelligence and its potential applications in higher education and the STEM fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Additional subject area master's degree.
  2. Two years of professional librarian experience in an academic library.
  3. Teaching experience.
