Position Focus
Reporting to the Head of Digital Preservation, the Digital Preservation Librarian will work within the Digital Preservation team to provide operational support for the systems and services that ensure the integrity, accessibility, authenticity, and usability of Yale’s preserved digital collections. They will act as an expert user of our digital preservation system, consult with infrastructure administrators and software integration developers, and provide digital preservation services to stakeholders in the library, archives, and museums as needed.

Provides user-centered support to content depositors to facilitate ingest of content into the digital preservation system, monitor and take any needed preservation actions, and to ensure content is appropriately accessible. Uses automation to perform data packaging and ingest on behalf of stakeholders. Utilizes APIs provided by the preservation system and related library systems to conduct large-scale analysis and manage workflow operation. Works closely with the content depositors to ensure they have the resources and training necessary to ingest, manage, and access their content. Contributes to the management of the digital preservation system by addressing workflow issues with content depositors, resolving software and underlying technology problems with operations staff, monitoring the system and supporting technologies, and performing configuration and testing as needed.
Perform assessments, analyzes needs, identifies tooling, and develops strategies to strengthen and expand service offerings in the areas of digital preservation and born-digital accessioning, processing, and access. Collaborates with fellow digital preservation team members to document policies and procedures related to our services. Monitors and tracks advancements in the field; researches, recommends, and establishes new technical strategies and standards. Essential Duties
- Identify and troubleshoot digital preservation issues including digital preservation system issues and ad-hoc user generated digital preservation related challenges2. Work with content owners/depositors to configure and monitor workflows for ingesting, preserving, accessing and reporting on preserved digital content3. Understand, configure and enforce security protocols within digital preservation systems and services4. Provide support and training for users of tools and services provided by the digital preservation team5. Use available tools and capabilities to identify at-risk digital content and propose and/or implement strategies to mitigate those risks6. Develop, test and execute digital preservation plans to ensure digital content can continue to be accessible in the future7. Work with stakeholders throughout the Library and Yale University to document digital preservation policies and processes to meet the requirements of ISO 16363 Requirements for the Audit and Certification of Trustworthy Digital Repositories. 8. Develop requirements for and test updates to the digital preservation software when implemented, and ensure all processes are running as expected.9. Undertake role-related research and development.10. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education And Experience
- Master’s degree from an ALA‐accredited library school. In selected instances, a post‐graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a master’s degree in library science. 2. Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications and analytical ability. 3. Demonstrated record of designing projects and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion. 4. Experience working collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations.5. Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing, team environment. Proven ability to collaborate on team projects, successfully execute independent tasks, and effectively communicate with diverse groups of colleagues. Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks and projects on time and in accordance with parameters.
Preferred Education, Experience And Skills
Experience with enterprise software in one or more areas including configuration, testing, administration, or user support. Familiarity with Linux, Python, Git, or SQL. Interest in contributing to the development of programmatic solutions to digital preservation tasks. Demonstrated knowledge of the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model and familiarity with related standards.
