Job summary

The City of Southfield seeks a Library Technology Specialist to administer the Library's website and Intranet, and to create and maintain content for events and programs. You will manage digital programs, catalog media, and provide AV support.

You will assist patrons with printing, reference services, and technology help; knowledge of online resources and web scripting is desired. This is a full-time on-site role in Southfield, MI.

Qualifications

  • MLS or substantial completion of MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Experience with library resources and online information resources.
  • Knowledge of video recording and streaming devices and related software.
  • Ability to manage library websites and intranets, including content posting and archiving.
  • Web scripting knowledge desirable for site management.

Job description

  • Administration, design, implementation and updating of the Library's website and Intranet
  • Create and maintain content for the Library website including posting, editing and archiving-as well as content for events, videos, programming and more.
  • Maintain a library of digital programs and classes; manage links to library resources
  • Manage video technology programs and software; catalogue video and audio content
  • As needed, assist patrons with printing and other electronic resources; deliver reference and readers' advisory services in person, by phone and online chat; provide support for the technology services help line and email
  • Provide other divisions with audio/visual support along with technology related classes and programs
  • Research and present staff with information on emerging, underutilized and unutilized technologies that could be incorporated into the Library's technology toolbox
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Master's degree in Library Science or substantial completion of Master's Degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited institution required.
  • Effective communication skills and public service orientation.
  • Experience working with various technology, software and programs including video recording and streaming devices.
  • Must possess knowledge of online information resources, downloadable media, computers and software programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources, and an awareness of new developments and trends in public libraries.
  • Web site management experience and knowledge of a web scripting language are desirable.
