The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior. The Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women is seeking a Librarian who will play a vital role in the mission through performing professional level library work within the Institution.
EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 21 semester hours in library science.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional library experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in library science will substitute for the education and experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Library experience, which must include some professional level experience in a combination of at least three of the following areas will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis: reference; cataloging and classification of materials; selection of materials; selection of instructional materials for children, adolescents, or adults; organization and/or administration; preparation and selection of materials for public relations/publicity purposes; and bookmobile operations. A master's degree in library science will substitute for the education and experience.

Typical work setting is an office/library.
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
