Job Description

This position is a 0.5 FTE at Integration Station School. The Librarian is a building-level teaching professional, library manager, 21st Century Skills specialist, and instructional partner who supports the school library program's mission. The role involves encouraging lifelong reading, collaborating with staff to integrate information literacy, and aligning instruction with Virginia Standards of Learning and Arlington Public Schools’ goals. The Librarian reports to the principal and often leads Digital Citizenship initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction on locating, analyzing, and using information resources.
  • Collaborate with teachers to deliver information literacy instruction aligned with curriculum.
  • Promote ethical use of information technology and maximize resource utilization.
  • Select, evaluate, and manage library materials to meet diverse needs.
  • Customize instruction for varied learning populations, integrating technology.
  • Incorporate fiction and nonfiction into lesson planning, promoting reading for enjoyment.
  • Train students and staff on library services and resources, including ACORN.
  • Manage library functions like scheduling, budgeting, and collection development.
  • Supervise library staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Promote the library as a learning environment and communicate activities to the school community.
  • Participate in school committees and community events, advocating for library programs.
  • Organize library programs such as Family Literacy Nights and author visits.
  • Contribute to library construction and renovation planning.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Positive interaction with students, staff, and administrators.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in Library Science and Instruction.
  • Commitment to professional development through memberships, courses, and conferences.
  • Virginia licensure and School Library endorsement required.
  • Masters in Library Science or equivalent coursework.
  • Dual endorsements (e.g., ESL, Special Education) are preferred but not required.
