Job summary

Sylvania High School seeks an experienced varsity-level coach to lead student-athletes across high school and youth levels. The role emphasizes building strong relationships with administration, staff, players and parents, planning practices, and promoting safety, participation, and academic progress.

The ideal candidate will bring a college degree and high school coaching experience, with familiarity in Game Changer, Hudl and MaxPreps.

Qualifications

• College degree required; teacher license preferred but not required.
• Experience coaching at the High School level; Varsity coaching preferred.
• Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills required.
• Ability to work well with students, staff, and community; knowledge of strength and conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Build personal and professional relationships with administration, teachers, coaches, players and parents.
• Plan and prepare practices; be organized and dedicated to athletes' development.
• Prioritize safety, equipment, and academic progress; manage participation numbers.
• Provide instruction on skills, sportsmanship, and game strategies.
• Be familiar with Game Changer, Hudl, and MaxPreps software; understand budgeting and policy rules.

Job description

Education Required: College degree, teacher license preferred but not required.

Previous Experience Required: Experience coaching at the High School Level with Varsity High School coaching experience preferred. Highly Effective Leadership, Organizational, and Communication skills required. Ability to work well with students, staff members, and community. Experience and knowledge of strength and conditioning programs.

General Description of Position Duties: Able to build personal and professional relationships with administration, teachers, coaches, players and parents. Prepares, plans, responsible and well organized. Dedicated and concerned about equipment, safety, sharing of athletes, academic progress and participation numbers. Encourages player development at the high school, middle school and youth league level. Provides proper instruction, teaching skills sportsmanship skills and strategies. Has an understanding of Game Changer, Hudl, Max Preps software computer programs. Understands financial and budgeting process. Is knowledgeable and has an understanding of coaching and practicing rules and policies governed by the IHSAA. Positive role model and motivator.

Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes Required or Desired CPR Certified Preferred. Will need to meet IHSAA Coaching Certification Requirements by completing the following NFHS online courses: Concussion, Heat Index Safety, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Will need to meet LCSC certification requirements which includes completing the following Safe School online courses: Blood Pathogen, Child Abuse: Mandatory Reporting & Recognition and Response, Bullying; Recognition & Response.
