Level II - Certified Surgical Technologist

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist Level II for a job in Southlake, Texas. Allied Health Professional
Shift: Staff

$10,000 sign on bonus for at least 1 year of experience
Shift: Weekend days – Saturday, Sunday, and one weekday: Approximately 1-2 call shifts per month

The Surgical Technologist Level II functions in the inter operative phase of patient care to expedite surgical procedures, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position assists the surgical team through the use of equipment and instrumentation to ensure that the operating room environment is safe and that required equipment is available and functioning properly.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Discussing any special needs with the surgeon before surgery and scrubbing into surgery in an adequate time for proper preparation of instruments before the surgeon scrubs in.
  2. Identifying damaged or incomplete trays, rectifying discrepancies immediately, or contacting those that can help in order to avoid delays or injury.
  3. Setting up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules; arranging sterile setup of instrument table supplies and equipment required for specific procedures.
  4. Ensuring the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
  5. Anticipating the needs of the surgeon and surgical team staff, passing sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures.
  6. Receiving surgical specimens following specimen protocol, and passing the specimen(s) off the sterile field to circulating nurse, verifying source of specimen.
  7. Ensuring the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for distribution.
  8. Cleaning the operating room following each case, and returning equipment to appropriate storage areas.
  9. Following infection control policies, AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.
  10. Maintaining inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited or other nationally accredited surgical technologist program.
  • Certification as a (CST) surgical technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing or their successor.
  • Successful completion of formal training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service.
  • Was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009.
