Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging, safe fitness classes for members and participants. You will create a welcoming environment, deliver high-quality instruction, and ensure safe participation across varied fitness levels.

Responsibilities include planning classes, providing clear technique demonstrations, and maintaining certifications. Flexible hours, part-time role at our fitness facilities, with a commitment to the YMCA values and safety

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training required upon hire.
• Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
• Certifications in primary group fitness (ACE, AFAA, NASM, Les Mills) or specialty credentials required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes.
• Demonstrate proper exercise techniques with modifications for different fitness levels.
• Create a positive, inclusive class environment and connect members to Y programs.
• Monitor participant safety and respond to injuries during classes.
• Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled classes with equipment ready.
• Maintain current certifications and follow safety and training policies.
• Communicate with participants, staff, and supervisors about program needs.
• Promote programs, events, and wellness initiatives to members.
• Maintain a clean, safe exercise environment before, during, and after classes.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; follow YMCA policies and procedures.
