Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a part-time Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging, safe fitness classes for members and participants at our Houston facilities. You will create a welcoming environment, deliver clear instruction, and adapt activities to various fitness levels.

Responsibilities include planning, demonstrating techniques, monitoring safety, communicating with participants and staff, and maintaining certifications.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training upon hire.
• Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Primary Group Fitness Certifications (ACE, AFAA, NASM, Les Mills) and/or specialty certifications.

Responsibilities

• Promotes and incorporates YMCA core values into all activities.
• Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes.
• Demonstrate proper exercise techniques with modifications for different levels.
• Create a positive, inclusive class environment and encourage participation.
• Monitor participant safety and respond to injuries or emergencies.
• Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled classes, and set up equipment.
• Maintain current certifications and follow safety and training policies.
• Communicate with participants, staff, and supervisors regarding needs.
• Promote programs, events, and wellness initiatives to members.
• Maintain a clean and safe exercise environment before, during, and after classes.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
