Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging, safe fitness classes that support members’ health. You will create a welcoming environment, deliver high-quality instruction, and ensure participants exercise safely across various fitness levels and abilities.

You will foster a positive class atmosphere, modify techniques as needed, monitor safety, and help connect members with other Y programs and services.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training upon hire.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Primary Group Fitness Certifications (ACE, AFAA, NASM, Les Mills) and/or specialty certifications.

Responsibilities

• Promotes YMCA core values in all activities.
• Plan and lead safe, effective group exercise classes per guidelines.
• Demonstrate proper exercise techniques with modifications for all levels.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive class environment and connect members to Y programs.
• Monitor participant safety and respond to injuries or emergencies.
• Arrive prepared and on time for classes and set up equipment.
• Maintain current certifications and comply with safety policies.
• Communicate needs and concerns to staff and supervisors.
• Promote programs, events and wellness initiatives to members.
• Maintain a clean and safe exercise environment before, during and after classes.
