Job summary

The Illinois House of Representatives is seeking a Legislative Coordinator based in Springfield, IL. This role provides direct, one-on-one legislative support to Democratic members, handling both large and small tasks in a fast-paced environment.

You will staff committees, coordinate outreach, and maintain office operations for multiple members. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, strong communication, adaptability, and a demonstrated interest in state government and policy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an unpredictable environment and long hours when needed.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work with diverse personalities.
  • Interest in state government, politics, and policy.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software.
  • Spanish language skills preferred, especially translation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop members’ legislative agendas and advance bill drafting with policy, budget, and legal units.
  • Maintain files on legislation, track status, and prepare talking points.
  • Staff legislative committees and coordinate member attendance for votes.
  • Support district outreach and caucus-wide activities; assist district offices.
  • Maintain Springfield office; greet visitors, schedule meetings, arrange travel.
  • Coordinate local visits to Springfield and memorialize meetings.
  • Provide general administrative support, including correspondence routing.
