Job Title: Legislative Assistant
Under direction of the member, has general charge and supervision of the office; and performs various administrative and clerical tasks.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Passing of basic clerical and typing test may be required.
Two (2) years of administrative experience in a general office environment; college degree preferred.
Knowledge of general office procedures; basic principles in the operation of various office equipment; basic knowledge of state government and the legislative process; spelling, punctuation, business English; and basic arithmetic. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; to write simple correspondence; to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situations to members, staff, lobbyists and the public; to work with members, staff, and the public in a sometimes-stressful environment; and to work overtime if required. Skill in typing accurately from plain copy; and in the use of data entry and word processing software.
