Job Title: Legislative Assistant
SUMMARY - Under direction of the member, has general charge and supervision of the office; and performs various administrative and clerical tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Passing of basic clerical and typing test may be required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Two (2) years of administrative experience in a general office environment; college degree preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of general office procedures; basic principles in the operation of various office equipment; basic knowledge of state government and the legislative process; spelling, punctuation, business English; and basic arithmetic. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; to write simple correspondence; to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situations to members, staff, lobbyists and the public; to work with members, staff, and the public in a sometimes-stressful environment; and to work overtime if required. Skill in typing accurately from plain copy; and in the use of data entry and word processing software.
